The star power
In our effort to look at the successful movies of 2007, here comes another set of movies that had an unmistakable stamp of difference. These efforts were hailed for their uniqueness and fresh ideas. Here goes the brief analysis of those films:
Kireedam

The Ajith-Trisha starrer, Kireedam produced jointly by Sujatha Cine Arts and Ad Labs is had a moderate success powered by the stars. The film was directed by debutant Vijay who has apprenticed under director Priyadarshan.

Kireedam, which is based on a Malayalam hit movie, is a complete family entertainer. Though the film flounders about, trying to make a masala movie out of material more suited to a character-

driven drama, it gave fresh and new look to Ajith’s star image. Ajith is always considered a 'King of Opening' at the box office. His fans did not disappoint him this time too though the film did not sustain in the long run.

Mallaikootai

Director Boopathy Pandian has chosen to tread a safe path with a mass hero like Vishal. His Malaikottai is a stimulating commercial cocktail of ingredients like stunts, comedy, and romance at the right mix. Priya Mani, after a stellar performance in Paruthi Veeran, came up with a totally upside down show with glamour. It had a steady run in the box office even competing with the later released Deepavali releases.

This was a double Dhamaka special treat for all Vijay fans this Deepavali! Living up to the title Vijay is indeed Azhagiya Tamil Magan in his first film with dual roles! His stylish and comical mannerism stole the show and scored well for him. The flat climax is a dampener, for which you can’t blame the hero. ATM may not be palatable to everyone, but for those who suck up this brand of hilarity with a straw, it’s plenty tickling.

Over all, though the film had many blemishes in its

script, Vijay neutralizes all of these with his outstanding performance and smart looks! The excellent opening, however, could not be sustained for a long.

Hari has mixed a large dosages of action, crass comedy, love, large family controlled by an old lady, a comic villain who is hell bent on vengeance, along with the set props- old feudal landlord’s bungalow. It is a typical entertainment feast form Hari having Suriya and Asin in lead. Vel is released for Deepavali and had to fight with Vijay's ATM as Surya played double role in this film after Perazhagan.
