Actor Prithviraj is teaming up with director Aashiq Abu for an upcoming movie titled 'Neelavelicham', an adaptation of noted writer Vaikkom Muhammad Basheer’s novel with the same title. The movie was announced by director Aashiq Abu on the 113th birth anniversary of veteran freedom fighter and writer of Malayalam literature Muhammad Basheer.

Taking to his social media handle, Aashiq Abu revealed the first look poster of the film. Along with the post, Aashiq penned a detailed note on his Facebook page. The first look poster of Neelavelicham features a spooky old Kerala style house that mildly glows with the moonlight.

The movie, which will start rolling by the end of this year, will have an impressive cast including Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban, Rima Kallingal, and Soubin Shahir. Neelavelicham's technical crew comprises cinematographer Shyju Khalid and film editor Saiju Sreedharan. The makers haven’t revealed the look of the lead cast, but the poster looks intriguing and promising. The film is slated to release in 2021.

It may be noted that Malayalam Cinema's evergreen horror thriller ‘Bhargavinilayam’ (1964) was an adaptation of the same novel. The movie had Prem Nazir, Vijaya Nirmala, and Madhu playing pivotal roles.
