The Tamil screen will witness a clash of two heroes on Pongal day Jan 15. Slated for release on the festival day are two films with Vijay and Ajith, long known for their rivalry, in lead roles - "Aathi" and "Paramasivan" respectively.

Vijay, of course, has clearly overtaken Ajith in the race for the top slot.

Ajith, who fell back because of his digression into car racing, hopes to catch up with his Pongal release, say sources in the industry.

A number of striking similarities between the two forthcoming films will make the contest exciting and the result uncertain.

Popular and versatile Prakash Raj will play a police officer in both the films. Vivek, hyped as the heir to legendary comedian N.S. Krishnan, will be the main rib tickler in the two films.

The films would also see character actors Nasser and Santhanabharathi play important roles.

Vidyasagar has scored music for both the films, which share the same editor in Suresh Urs.

To top it all, both the films tell the story of the hero avenging destruction of his family by the villain. The rival fans' clubs, swearing by the two stars, are also making similar preparations to ensure a record opening for the films.
