There have been protests against actress Kushboo being chosen to play the role of Maniammai, wife of Periyar, in Gnana Rajasekaran's Periyar.

But the actress is least out off by the protest and brazens it out by saying that she is confident that the opposition will soon die down.

And Kushboo is one actress whom you can bank on to be bold and principled.

Ever since a Tamil weekly carried an interview of Kushboo on chasity, there were protests from some Tamil organizations and she was even threatened by them.

Now the news of Kushboo playing Maniammai has sparked off another controversy.

Those Tamil organizations which protested against her claim that a woman, who had scant regard for Tamil culture and values, should not be allowed to play the most respectable Maniammai's role.

However according to Kushboo, 'No one can stop me from doing the role of Maniammai. No one can hinder a creative person. This is the first time I will be working in a film about a great personality, so I have done a lot of homework. I don't intend to run away from opposition.'
