'Ilaya Thalapathi' Vijay celebrated a meaningful birthday on Wednesday, by not just personally taking part in welfare activities, but also by ensuring that members of his fan clubs all over Tamil Nadu followed the suit.

As soon as the day dawned, Vijay, accompanied by wife Sangeetha and children, sought blessings from his parents S A Chandrasekaran and Shobha. Later, he accepted wishes from fans who had thronged in large numbers to greet him.

This was followed by the actor's visit to the Egmore children's hospital, where he gifted new-born babies with gold rings. He also took part in a couple of other welfare activities, organised by the members of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam.

In other parts of the State, fans of Vijay celebrated the actor's birthday by reaching out to people through various social service programmes. They organised special pujas at temples, breakfast for students and blood donation camps. Also, saplings were distributed to people and uniforms, notebooks, pens were given to students.
