Success of a movie would lead to half-a-dozen films being churned out on similar themes in Tamil filmdom. Recently success of films like >Saamy and Kaakha Kaakha, which revolved around the lives of honest policemen, lead to few movies on same subject.

Thuluvatho Illamai based on adolescent youths resulted in few movies being churned out on the trials and turbulations of adolescent youths. Rest part, romantic and action-packed themes are the order of the day in Tamil filmdom.

But now, horror and scary movies which are very rare to come by in Kollywood seems to have taken centrestage. Currently four films are being made simultaneously, which are supposedly horror thrillers. Actor Prashanth's forthcoming release Shock, actress Sneha starrer Adhu, Yuga being directed by Yaar Kannan and finally Kurukezhuthu, a film on evil spirits being produced and directed by debutantes. The recent success of horror movies in Bollywood seems have inspired producers and directors to churn out such films in Tamil.

The success of Mahesh Bhatt's Raaz starring Bipasha Basu, Producer-director Ram Gopal Verma's Bhoot and Darna Mana Hai have motivated the technicians here to churn out movies on similar themes.

Prashanth starrer Shock is a remake of Bhoot. The movie is being produced and directed by his father Thiyagarajan. In the movie, Prashant and Meena, the lover couples, get haunted by a young woman's spirit. The movie is all about how the couple overcome the spirit. Asked about the movie, Prashanth says, 'it would be an adrenalin rush movie filled with excitement and horror. Iam confident that people will not resist the temptation to come and see the movie again and again. It will be really scary. Though basically a remake of Bhoot, the movie has undergone slight modifications in the script, which would even leave Ram Gopal Verma awe struck.'

Next in the line of horror movies is Adhu being produced by Viswas Sundar and directed by a new comer Ramesh Krishnan. The movie has Sneha in the main role. According to the director 'horror movies are very rare to come by in the Tamil film industry. I want to succeed with this film and leave an impression among the audience'. Sneha plays a blind woman in the movie. When she gets the eyes of a young woman died in a mishap transplanted, the woman's ghost too enters her. The rest is all about Sneha overcomes the ghost.

Yaar Kannan is busy with his project Yuga which is all about super natural powers. Kurukuezhuthu is reportedly about a series of murders that occur in a village. The hero sets out to find the culprit. Finally, a dead corpse is said to commit all murders. The movie is supposed to have computer graphics being generated to evoke fear among the audience.

Asked about this trend today, a producer says, 'let's wait for these movies to release. Rarely does horror movies are made in Kollywood. In today's scenario, good story and screenplay are the attrictes for a movie's success. Hope these movie succeed and many such movies would made in Kollywood'
