Director Shankar, who is currently wielding the megaphone for Anniyan starring Vikram, has begun his home production Kadhal. He had earlier co-produced and directed Mudhalvan with Arjun in the lead. Kadhal is being directed by Balaji Sakthivel, who directed Samurai (starring Vikram), a couple of years ago. Sakthivel has also penned the story, screenplay and dialogues for Kadhal. Boys-fame Bharath plays the lead role and acting opposite to him is a debutante Sandhya. Also in the cast are Sukumar, Saranya and Meenakshi.

Cinematography is by Vijay Milton, while a new music director Joshua Sridhar is being introduced. It is a romantic entertainer set in the city of Madurai. A major portion of the film is being in Madurai. According to Balaji Sakthivel, 'it is an attempt to take a closer look on the lover couples, their desire and their aspirations. My earlier movie was Samurai, which dealt on the evils of corruption in our society.' The traditional art forms of the State -- Oyilattam and karagattam have been effectively used in the movie, he adds.

Shooting for the movie is almost complete and it is likely to be released this September.
