The Chennai based Dr MGR University will confer a honorary doctorate on K S Ravikumar at its 18th convocation ceremony on November 14. Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev and Scientific Advisor for Defence Minister V K Saraswat will also be awarded doctorates by the varsity.

Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University V N Rajasekaran Pillai will be the chief guest of the function. He will present degrees at the convocation ceremony, which will be presided over by Dr MGR University’s chancellor A C Shanmugam.

Known for commercial entertainers, Ravikumar’s films include a mixture of genres, ranging from comedy and drama to action thrillers. He has worked with all the major actors of South India, including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Vijay, Suriya, Prabhu, Vijayakanth, Karthik, Sarath Kumar, Madhavan, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and Jayaram.

Ravikumar's directorial career started with the film ‘Puriyadha Pudhir’. His next film was ‘Cheran Pandiyan’, his first hit, which also was his friend Sarath Kumar's first film in the lead. After that Ravikumar made many films with Sarath that turned out to be the biggest blockbusters of their combination.

He landed himself with the major task of directing Superstar Rajinikanth in ‘Muthu’ which he did successfully. He later directed Rajini for ‘Padaiyappa’. In the combination of Kamal, Ravikumar delivered blockbusters like ‘Avvai Shanmugi’, ‘Thenali’, ‘Panchathanthiram’ and ‘Dasavatharam’.

The filmmaker’s latest offering is ‘Aadhavan’, which is running successfully all over Tamil Nadu. His forthcoming film will be ‘Jaggubhai’, which has Sarath Kumar and Shriya Saran in lead roles.
