Tamil cinema is truly going places this year, be it on the national front or internationally. To initiate and promote Tamil films in Russia and other CIS countries, various organizations in Russia have come together thus bringing about a Tamil Film Fest there.

In commemoration of the 64th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Indian and Russia and also Indian Independence Day celebrations, there will be an Indian Film Festival that will be held in the Uglich Region in the southern part of Russia.

It is informed that the event will take place in August and for three dates although an official confirmation is yet to be received on the dates.

Eleven movies have been selected, among those that released in 2010; these movies will be screened during the three days.

The movies are:

Angadi Theru

Boss Engira Baskaran

Enthiran

Kalavani

Madraspattinam

Mynaa

Nandalala

Paiyaa

Thenmerku Paruva Katru

Vinnaithandi Varuvaya

Not just that, these movies will be screened with Russian sub-titles! Awards will be given away to Indian delegates by the Russian Government at the end of the event.

This is a unique and a nice way to promote cultural relationship between the two countries; we hope the fest continues as an annual event for many years…
