Looks like a hero playing gangster or someone with negative shades, seems to be ‘the thing’ in Kollywood today. Thanks to movies like Ajith’s ‘Billa,’ Vijay’s ‘Pokiri,’ and upcoming ‘Mankatha’ of thala, for having set this trend.

Simbu’s forthcoming project ‘Vettai Mannan’ seems to be one that will live up to its name, meaning ‘A king in hunting.’ The movie is directed by debutant Nelson, who has few television reality shows to his credit.

Simbu shares screen space with Deeksha Seth who is known for her glam roles in Telugu. It is said that when the team initially approached her to do the film, she refused as she had her examinations on. But then, when they showed her a four minute teaser of the film, she signed on the dotted lines without even listening to the script further.

We had earlier told you that ‘Vettai Mannan’ will see Simbu as a gangster who will fight and try to overtake Jai.

But the Kollywood grapevine is now abuzz that, Simbu will avenge the death of his close friend in the movie, played by Jai! This was revealed by the director itself, while speaking to a media house.

The movie’s crux is about the friendship STR and Jai share, incidentally, the duo are good friends in real life as well. It shows how a local rowdy from North Chennai, who kills people for few thousands of rupees, goes on to become an international gangster who is paid in billions!

Both Simbu and Jai play the rowdies of North Chennai, and after Jai is murdered brutally, Simbu sets for avenging Jai’s death.

While the first half of the movie is set in North Madras, post intermission the movie takes us to never-seen-before locations in Brazil. Simbu will be involved in action-packed sequences, and it will be done without using a dupe or even ropes!

The movie shares one thing in common with Superstar’s blockbuster ‘Baasha,’ where the Superstar becomes a don to avenge the death of his friend, but nothing else is common say sources. At the same time, they are sure ‘Vettai Mannan’ will be a milestone in Simbu’s career.

The director who is the brain behind top reality shows in Tamil vouches that ‘Vettai Mannan’s highlight will be its screenplay, a key to success we’d say.
