When you think of him the word 'grandeur' pops cross your minds. He is one director who bridged the gap between the north and the south with his larger than life sets, big-budget projects and as the icing on the cake a good story to back up! We are discussing director Shankar who is celebrating his birthday today!

His first film (Gentleman) as the director, won him a Filmfare award for the best director, nearly two decades back in 1993. From then on there has been no looking back for this highest paid director in Tamil cinema today! Each and every film that has been his brainchild has garnered national attention and has discussed some social issue.

Two of Shankar's films 'Indian' and 'Jeans' were submitted to the Oscars committee in the best foreign language category. All the films that have churned out from Shankar's camera have tasted success in huge dollops. The director now also heads his production house, S Pictures, which has been instrumental in giving fresh talent the mush needed break in films.

Shankar is now busy with his upcoming directorial 'Nanban' which has been inspired by Chetan Bhagat's book Five Point Someone as well as the Bollywood blockbuster '3 Idiots.' The Tamil remake sees Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth and Ileana in lead roles and has music by Harris Jayaraj.

Today, as this master weaver of breathtaking films celebrates his birthday, IndiaGlitz along with his fans across the globe wish him the best in life and hope he keeps us under his spell of magical films for many more years to come!
