I don't want to do off-beat films: Vijay

Without any ifs or buts, Vijay has answered straight to a famous allegation on him- that he is not trying hands at different subjects. "I don't want to come out of the commercial route. And I will not do off-beat films. Commercial format suits me well. So why should I," he asks.

At the same time, the Ilayathalapathy confesses that he likes watching off-beat movies. "Personally speaking, I like such films. But I know very well that fans don't like me doing anything out of the commercial format. I have prior experience in this," he says.

Happy about the success of his Deepavali release 'Velayudham', he says, "I wanted to do such a film right from the beginning. But I was just a budding actor then. So I waited all these years, till director Jayam M Raja came to me with the idea."

On his next, 'Nanban' directed by Shankar, Vijay says, "Again it is a remake but one could feel Shankar's unique stamp from the beginning till end. The director has given a new colour to 3 Idiots and I loved being part of the movie. Nanban will be a Pongal treat."
