Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni today said a retrospective of Kamal Haasan films titled 'Kamal Film Festival' would be held next year in New Delhi to celebrate the actor's golden jubilee year in film industry.

Speaking at the inauguration of a two-day Media and Entertainment Business Conclave being organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in Chennai, she also reacted on the issue of not selecting Kamal's films for screening at the forthcoming International Film Festival (IFFI) in Goa.

"Since the law prevents the organisors from not screening more than a specified number of films in the international film festival, we could not do so in the IFFI at Goa", she said.

In his address, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said entertainment industry in Tamil Nadu with a long track road should become the 'epicentre at the international level' and there should be efforts to realise this goal.

He said the film studios in the State were comparable to the best in the world. 'Professionalism has become noticeable everywhere in the industry and our artistes are committed to their cause'.

Karunanidhi said DMK government has been doing its best for the growth of cinema industry and pointed out entertainment tax was reduced.

A Welfare Board for cinema industry was formed by the government and it has been proposed to establish a cinema township, he said. South India Artistes Association president R Sarathkumar, Eros International group executive A P Parigi and Walt Disney Studios senior vice-president Michael Andreen also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Kamal Haasan welcomed the gathering. A study on South Indian films compiled by FICCI was released by the Chief Minister and the first copy was received by Kamal on the occasion.
