The ever charming actor Madhavan celebrated his 51st birthday and while celebs are sending love and wishes to him here are some unknown facts about him.

Actor, writer and filmmaker Madhavan has now tried his hands at direction. The trailer of the movie 'Rocketry - The Nambi Effect' starring him was released last April and was very well received by the fans.

Recently, D Y Patil College, Maharashtra conferred an honorary Doctorate to him. On which he told "It was surreal. My only regret was that my wife Sarita and my son Vedant couldn't accompany me to the event. I missed them in my golden moment".

Prior to his debut in cinema, he was famous for starring in several Hindi TV serials. He made his debut in the series "Banegi Apni Baat" and later went on to act in several TV serials. He last played an unidentified character in the 1996 Hindi film "Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin".
 
After giving up Hindi TV series and cinema and became famous in 1997 for his role in the English film "Inferno". Following that, he started his cinematic career by acting alongside Shalini in the film 'Alaipayuthey' directed by Maniratnam.

 
In the early movies like 'Alaipayuthey' and 'Minnale' in Tamil, he was affectionately called 'Maddy' by the fans. His later films like 'Kannathil Muthamittal', ' Irudhi Suttru' and ' Vikram Vedha' proved his transcendence from Chocolate boy to a Excellent performer.

Apart from this, he has often given up the identity of a protagonist and is emerging as an elite actor who can take up any role that better suits the story.

His recent flick "Mara" an adaptation of Malyalam film Charlie received great response. His previous film "Silence" was also a huge success.

 
His films in Hindi such as "Rang De Basanti", "Guru" with Abhishek Bachchan and "3 Idiots" with Aamir Khan earned him a good name in Bollywood.

He also acted with actress Kangana Ranaut in "Tanu weds Manu" for which she received national award recently.

Although actor Madhavan first made his debut in Hindi cinema, his father is a native of Tamil Nadu. He was born on June 1, 1970 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. His father worked for Tata Steel and his mother Saroja for Indian Bank.
