13 people dead, 40 critical after consuming poisoned liquor

At least 13 people have been reported dead, while 40 people are in critical condition in the Haridwar district of Uttarakhand as a result of consuming adulterated liquor.
Following a preliminary investigation, more than a dozen officials belonging to the department associated with the liquor company have been suspended. “The incident occurred last night. We have suspended thirteen officials in connection with the case. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered. Strict action will be taken,” Uttarakhand’s excise minister reportedly said.
A full-fledged inquiry on the matter is underway while the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem. Further details will apparently be revealed as soon as the reports are sent in.
