Michael Platt, a 13-year-old from Bowie, Maryland, has taken his love for baking to another level by not only starting a business at the age of 11, but also feeding the needy. The youngster launched his bakery called ‘Michaels Desserts’ two years ago. With a one-for-one business model, Michael gives one pastry to a person in need for each one that a customer buys. Once to twice a month, he travels to Washington DC where he shares his baked goods with families in domestic violence and homeless shelters.

He also works in a nonprofit ‘No Kid Hungry’ to reach out to other children. Talking about his work, Michael said: “I always wanted to have a purpose for what I do. It’s all about helping people — not just having a purpose for yourself, but thinking about, ‘How does this touch other things?’ ” His work is truly heartwarming and he sets a beautiful example to not only other adolescents but all of us.
