Last July 17th the shocking news of 17 men sexually abusing a minor girl in an affluent apartment building in Ayanavaram left most people in a state of stigma and fear that no one is safe. The girl who was hearing impaired had been subject to the horrific crime by the security men, lift operators and plumbers for six months before she fell seriously ill mentally and physically.

The Chennai City Police Commission A.K. Radhakrishnan has ordered that all the 17 including four lift operators, five security men and four plumbers be booked under the Goondas Act. It is common knowledge that the act is non-bailable and the confessions to the police will also be accepted during the trail which is not the case under other acts.
