A Rare Achievement By Sivakumar

In 2009, actor Kamal Haasan completed 50 years in Tamil film industry. Today another legendary actor who is affectionately addressed as Anna` (elder brother) by Kamal and a proud father two leading heroes of the current generation has touched the rare feet of sustaining 50 years in the highly competitive film industry.

We are referring to none other than legendary actor Sivakumar, who has given life to a range of characters on celluloid and the father of actors Suriya and Karthi.

Born as Palanichamy in 1941, the veteran made his acting debut in Kakkum Karangal` that had legendary actor S.S.Rajendran in the lead role. Palanichamy was renamed as Sivakumar as he entered the industry. The film released on June 19, 1965 and opened the doors for a talented and composed actor who could carry any role in all genres with finesse.

Sivakumar has acted in a range of characters in his career spanning five decades has acted in a range of characters and most of the roles played by him in black and white, Eastman color and color films still linger in the memories of the audience. Some of the films he acted still remain classics of Tamil cinema. Be it the highly knowledgeable Carnatic singer J.K.Balaganapathy of Sindhu Bhairavi` or an innocent tribal villager Sempatta in Rosappoo Ravikkaikari` Sivakumar gave life to every character played in celluloid.

The veteran apart from acting in lead roles in many films has acted with a number heroes from MGR, Sivaji Ganesan. S.S.Rajendran. Muthuraman, Rajinikanth. Kamal Haasan, Vijaykanth, Sathyaraj, Arjun, Vijay, Ajith, Surya and many others.

His roles as father of Vijay and Ajith in Kadhalukku Mariyadhai` and Poovellam Unvasam` respectively, are also remembered by the fans of both the leading stars.

Sivakumar has won three Filmfare awards, and two Tamil Nadu State awards in acting. He is also a voracious reader, good writer and a brilliant orator. His long speeches on Kamba Ramayanam have attracted many fans from various age groups.
