Aaha Kalyanam

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Telugu Comments

This film will initiate a new chapter in Telugu film history irrespective of the box office success. And that is, the debut of Bollywood's greatest film production house 'Yash Raj Films' in South. We have seen South production houses like AVM, Suresh, Prasad, Padmalaya etc making films regularly in Hindi but not the same the other way around. Corporatization has made this possible. Honchos from multinationals have smelt the opportunity, opened their shops down South and started making films with big stars. UTV, Reliance, Fox and now... YRF.

It must be admitted that Yash Raj is making a calculated and cautious move into the South with the remake of their own family entertainer `Band Bajaa Baraat' which kind of revived the small films segment of the ace house, a brainchild of Yash Chopra's able and efficient offspring, Aditya Chopra. Even more calculated is the kind of production i.e., a bilingual with Nani, a budding star in South and Vani Kapoor, a YRF find. Perfect pitch to test the case.

Nani is a name to reckon with. From a humble background of a clap assistant to an actor that has three releases in a month, he has come a long way. He will especially cherish the feeling that he is the hero of YRF's South debut. Vani looks fabulous and the music is a no-nonsense, giving a feeling that it will aid the visual immensely.

One doubt however, which event the filmmakers would have running back of their minds is, the free make of the original that was made by Nandini Reddy viz., `Jabardast'. The Siddharth Smantha starrer was a damp squib at the box office but the essence of the original was rather captured. So, it will be interesting to see what changes YRF think tank has made to the script to get away with the glitch.

`Aha Kalyanam' is releasing on the 21st February and will be the second release for Nani this month. A quick look at the posters and the trailers gives a feeling that its worth a try.
