Aamir Khan explains why his unique choice of films are often successful

In last few months, Bollywood has delivered a series of flop movies and this has become a topic of concern and discussion among film fraternity. In the latest episode of his talk show 'Koffee With Karan', filmmaker Karan Johar accused actor Aamir Khan of changing the taste of Bollywood audience who don't relate with mainstream movies anymore.

Citing the example of successful south Indian films, Karan told Aamir, "There’s a tonality that KGF has or Pushpa has that Hindi cinema actually used to have. We actually let go of it and you’re responsible. In the year 2001, you came up with two films ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Lagaan’, both had new sensibilities, both had a new syntax in cinema then after that you came up with a film ‘Rang De Basanti’ in 2006, then you made ‘Taare Zameen Par’ right after that, with the result you started making a certain audience and filmmakers."

Aamir quickly disagreed with Karan and pointed out the real reason behind success of those films. He said, “No, you’re wrong. Those were all heartland films. Those movies had emotions. Those movies had emotions. They reach the common man. It’s something that you will emotionally connect to. ‘Rang De Basanti’ is a very emotional film. It touches the people at grassroots."

Aamir Khan's next film 'Laal Singh Chaddha' is set to release theatrically on 11th of August.
