A cheating case has been filed against actor Vemal for allegedly getting rupees one and a half crores from financier Singaravelen promising him the theatrical rights of 'Kalavani 2' costarring Oviya and directed by Sargunam. It is further alleged that Vemal then said to the financier that the film is produced by Sargunam and he has nothing to do with it and the rights have been sold to someone else.

Singaravelan had already procured a stay order against the release of 'Kalavani 2' but Sargunam went to court and squashed the order. Singaravelan was asked to appear before the court in this regard as Sargunam had complained that murder threats were made to him. Now the new case against Vemal could further affect the release of the film.
