In 2018, Amala Paul committed to do a show in Malaysia and rehearsed for her dance steps at a dance studio in T. Nagar, Chennai. The talented actress then made the shocking complaint to the all women's police station in the area that one Alagesan approached her at the studio and asked her for sexual favors on behalf of a Malaysian businessman named Ibrahim.

A case was registered in the 17th Criminal Court in Saidapet against the dance studio owner Sridhar, Alageshan and businessmen Bhaskaran and Ibrahim. Sridhar and Bhaskar were also arrested in connection with the case and they sought interim ban on police interrogation which was given to them.
