The Indian film industries are under the scanner for the alleged extreme use of narcotics drugs and already the late Sushant Singh Rajput's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her brother are in police custody. Similarly down south Kannada actresses Ragini Dwivedi and Sanjjanaa Galrani have also been arrested for not only using drugs but also allegedly organizing drug parties

Meanwhile, a case has been filed against actress Niveditha by one Deepak of Malleshwaram in Bengaluru for hurting Hindu religious sentiments by comparing the sacred Thulasi (Basil) to the banned cannabis drug (ganja).

In an event Niveditha has stated according to a news report "If we look at the history, cannabis was vastly grown in India, more in North India, compared to South, before it was made illegal in India in 1985. It was used to cure many diseases as well as for relaxation purposes. There is not a single person who has died because of consuming cannabis which is called in different names during Atharvaveda like Vijaya, Ajaya, Mathurani and Siddhi. There are also references in some books that cannabis was even used for religious purposes."

Niveditha who has acted in many Kannada films and the Tamil film 'Chithiram Pesuthadi 2' has also pointed out that America and 40 other countries allow the free use of cannabis. Legal action is set to be taken on the actress by the Bengaluru police after the complaint.
