After Suriya & Karthi, Vishal speaks against controversial law

It's known that there is a proposal to amend a legislation to empower the Union government to review a film after it has been certified by the CBFC. The likes of Kamal Haasan have been the first to oppose the change, saying that artistic liberties will be arbitrarily crushed if the amendment comes into effect.

Of late, popular actors such as Suriya and Karthi, too, have opposed it. On Friday, the 'Aakasam Nee Haddu Ra' actor asked his followers to sign a petition to question the rationale behind the proposed changes. Karthi, in a series of tweets, said that the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2021 (Draft) allowing the Central Government to cancel a film's censor certificate at any time will create insecurity and severely impact business prospects for every film. "It will hurt the industry, hence such provisions must be dropped," he added. "While draft measures to curb piracy are commendable, it is highly undesirable to strangle freedom of expression in a civilized society like ours. Therefore request the government to heed our request," he further opined.

Today, actor Vishal took to social media to criticize the proposed legislation. The 'Abhimanyudu' actor asked, "Where is Freedom of Speech & Expression? Why have a Censor Board? Why the Hectic Process? Why always target Cinema Industry? First GST, Then no action against Piracy & Now this Law. It’s not at all Fair to bring this Act."

While there are murmurs against the law from Kollywood, Tollywood has remained silent, by and large.
