Akshay Kumar faces backlash for promoting pan masala brand

Bollywood fans recently saw an amazing on-screen team-up as Akshay Kumar joined superstars Shahrukh Khan and Ajay Devgan for a TV commercial. Apparently, the trio was featured together in an advert for Vimal Elaichi. The ad starts with Shahrukh and Ajay traveling in the car on their way to meet khiladi.
This khiladi turns out to be Akshay Kumar in his typical action hero avatar, who consumes a packet of Vimal Elaichi in front of Ajay and SRK. Although Akshay has a dedicated fanbase, he faced severe online backlash for promoting a pan masala brand. Several netizens pointed out his hypocrisy since he features in anti-smoking ads and has done anti-tobacco campaigns in the past.
One of the comments on this advert read, “From “Herogiri yeh fu-fu karne mein nahi” to “Bolo zubaan kesari”, Akshay Kumar has come a long way…” Another user wrote, Akshay Kumar once said that he will not endorse guthka wine advertisements. Now he is doing it.”
