Amal Neerad praises Deepika Padukone

As Deepika Padukone's Bollywood colleagues are giving their support for the actress after she visited the Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tuesday evening, and expressed her solidarity with them, Malayalam filmmaker Amal Neerad is all praise for her stand!

Taking to his Instagram page, Amal appreciated the 'Chhapaak' star's gutsy act of standing up with the JNU students. "As a filmmaker/producer, I understand how difficult it must have been for her to take a stand and be at the protest in solidarity with the JNU students two days before the release of her debut film as a producer. Takes Guts and Grace!". He also added that he is proud to be a fan of Deepika.

Here's the full post -

"Ahead of Chhapak's release, I would like to whole heartedly congratulate and thank both Meghna Gulzar and Deepika Padukone. I have been a huge fan boy of both these amazing women. While I loved Talvar for its sheer brilliance, I cannot remember any film that made me feel as patriotic as Raazi did.

I have followed Deepika's work closely, and loved everything from Om Shanti Om to Piku, including her cameos in the songs of Dum Maaro Dum and Raabta. When she spoke about her struggles with depression and inspired many to understand and address it, I took pride in being her fan. As a filmmaker/producer, I understand how difficult it must have been for her to take a stand and be at the protest in solidarity with the JNU students two days before the release of her debut film as a producer. Takes Guts and Grace! I request all the fans of Cinema to flock the theatres in large numbers and watch Chhapak this Friday.

I know that here, in the Malayalam industry, ideas become films in almost no time, however I understand that it doesn't work like that in the Hindi film industry. News of Meghna Gulzar's next, with Deepika Padukone essaying the role of a real life acid attack survivor, surfaced in mid 2018; they filmed in 2019 and we will finally get to see the Maestro Meghna telling this story, like how it is supposed to be, on screens this Friday. I have to thank you for not making it a Zeenat Aman-esque profile look from Satyam Shivam Sundaram because no matter how true a story is, our need to retain the 'BEAUTY' always weighs down on the responsibility of keeping it authentic. So thank you Meghna and Deepika for retaining the Beauty of the Human Spirit and Celebrating its Triumph.
