Nadirsha as a comedian has been impressive and he had made a mark in the field too. He has capitalised his expertise in it to make his directorial debut. 'Amar Akbar Anthony' is a comic entertainer and Nadirsha has put in elements of humour and situations demanding humour knowing the taste of the masses.
'Amar Akbar Anthony', to be frank does not make you laugh in every scene. But the lack of it in one scene is made up with a stellar one in the next, camouflaging the previous faux pas. The movie is funny and entertaining to say the least. It would at least make you smile.
The plot of the movie is simple with three lower middle class youths from Fort Kochi being the lead characters. Amar, Akbar and Anthony shares a warm friendship involving a lot of leg pulling, love and affection. Into their ordinary lives enter Jenny. All three of them hopes to woo her. There is this conscious humour filling, which actually works. An incident changes tehir attitudes and lives and their response to this situation is what the movie is all about.
Supported by a huge star cast involving Prithviraj, Indrajith Jayasurya and Namitha Pramod, the movie literally rises on their shoulders. There are references to their stardom and the kind of humour that the masses can identify with. This has really aided the movie. Though this kind of narrative may seem outdated and cliched, the movie does manage to stay afloat.
All the cast has displayed excellent comic timing to perfect their roles. And as usual Jayasurya, adept at playing unusual roles, as a cripple in the movie has done well. Namitha doesn't have much of a role to play in the movie. The little girl in the narrative really captures all heart. Her song is simply heart-touching. Interestingly, a cameo by Srinda in the end really impresses and she take the cake as the credit rolls.
Nadirsha himself has done the music which is passable. Technically, the movie is neat, though there is nothing different to talk about. Nadirshah has definitely landed the director title with aplomb. 'Amar Akbar Anthony' is a neat movie and is a good one time watch.
