The emergence of various OTT platforms has changed filmmaking in a very positive way. Now the makers can focus on the content and its artistic representation. Now since theatres are shut off due to the Covid-19 lockdown, a number of big budget films have opted for OTT release. Movies like 'Gulabo Sitabo', 'Laxmii', 'Ludo' etc were released directly for streaming.

Now that most OTT releases have performed poorly and failed to meet their targets, the streaming services are cautious about which films to buy for their platforms. Earlier they bought the streaming rights to big budget mainstream flicks only by judging the names involved in the film. Now that big budget and star studded flick 'Laxmii' has failed to achieve half its target, the streaming services are demanding screenings before buying the rights so that they can judge the content instead of names.

Amazon has demanded the movie screening for 'Coolie No. 1' starring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan.
