Anarkali Marikar's 'Kali' photoshoot turns controversial

The latest photoshoot of Mollywood actress Anarkali Marikar has turned controversial. The photoshoot that featured herself as goddess Kali irked netizens and faced criticism over promoting racism and discrimination on skin colour.
“This is a humble attempt to recreate Goddess Kali's depiction. Let's bow and pay tribute to the ultimate Shakti, Kaali,” wrote photographer-cinematographer Mahadevan Thampy, who captured the video.
After the photoshoot triggered controversy, the 'Uyare' actress took to her Facebook page and issued an apology. In the statement she mentioned that the theme of the photoshoot was changed due to some problems. She also confessed that she failed to say no to the team even after realizing she is committing a mistake.
“My deepest apologies. I swear I will be more careful about such racist and casteist tendencies in popular culture that I too became part of. I have informed the photographer that I will not repost the photos nor promote it in any way,” wrote Anarkali.
