A man from Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool threatened a female 'friend' he met on social media and demanded Rs. 10,000 from her to delete the obscene pictures of her he had allegedly saved up in his mobile.

The woman reportedly approached the police after she received persistent phone calls from two different numbers demanding a sum of money in order for the accused to delete inappropriate pictures of her. The man apparently put up the woman's photo as his WhatsApp display picture as well. Following the registration of complaint by the woman, the police began investigation and determined that the accused man had posed as a woman on social media and befriended the woman, and several others. The police mentioned that he would usually get women to send him pictures of themselves and later blackmail them using the same for money as well as sexual relationships.

The police have confiscated both the mobiles from the accused and booked an FIR against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The man has been remanded in judicial custody while further investigation of the matter is currently underway.
