Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Annatha' directed by Siruthai Siva and produced by Sun Pictures was released worldwide on Diwali and is said to be a blockbuster hit. Reports say the film grossed over Rs 50 crores in just three days in Tamil Nadu alone and the overall collections in the region of rupee one hundred and fifty crores..

Reviews of 'Annaathe' has been generally mixed with most YouTubers leaning on the negative side. Similarly meme creators too have had field days trolling the film to no end which has obviously irked the film's team and especially director Siruthai Siva.

One of the memes that has been widely shared on the internet is a comparison between 'Annaathe' and Thalapathy Vijay's 'Thirupaachi'. It points to the similarity in the storylines, the sister sentiment at the core and other elements.

Director Perarasu who helmed 'Thirupaachi' however has a different opinion and has posted a strong statement against trolls. He wrote in Tamil "A film will have its positives and negatives. But some have reacted to it in on par with treason. They are trolling with bad intent and in an uncivilized manner which is disheartening. The criticisms of certain YouTube channels are at an abysmal low standards. 'Annaathe's win at the box office will be the answer to them."
