Anti-national behavior case filed against Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar

A case of treachery has been filed against senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar for appreciating Pakistan and degrading India while speaking at a Karachi meeting recently.

During the run up to late last year’s Assembly polls in Gujarat, Aiyar addressed an election meeting in Gujarat when he made some below-par remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Even some Congress leaders expressed their disapproval about Aiyar’s comments after which he was suspended from the party by party president Rahul Gandhi, apparently to send across a strong message (to voters).

Taking part at the 9th cultural festival at Karachi in Pakistan some days back (11th February), Aiyar said that India didn’t evince interest in talking to Pakistan though Pakistan wanted to kick-start talks with India to find lasting solutions to the many issues affecting diplomatic ties between the two nations. I like Pakistan and in turn, Pakistanis like me. I didn’t get this much love in India but got only hatred,” he said.

Referring to this talk, Ashok Chaudhary, a local BJP leader from Kota, Rajasthan, filed a case of treachery (anti-national behavior) against Aiyar with the local police. “Aiyar’s talk has severely dented my and others’ patriotism. “Aiyar has made such comments at a time when Indian army is retaliating against Pak’s misadventures,” the complaint said.  A Kota Court would be taking up the case on Tuesday (20th February).
