A man from Chennai has been awarded compensation after failing to attend a music concert despite purchasing a ticket. The event in question was the 'Marakkuma Nenjam' concert by famous music composer A.R. Rahman. The concert was originally scheduled for August 12, 2023, on East Coast Road, but was postponed due to rain. It was later held on September 10, 2023, and ticket holders were informed they could use the same tickets.
Arjun, a resident of Anna Nagar, had purchased a ticket worth ₹10,000 which included a parking facility. However, due to lack of clear notice about the postponement and severe traffic on the rescheduled date, he could not enjoy the event. As a result, he experienced mental distress and filed a complaint with the Chennai North District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. He demanded a full refund with interest and ₹10 lakhs as compensation for the inconvenience.
After reviewing the case, the commission directed the event organizing company ACTC Events to pay ₹50,000 as compensation and ₹5,000 towards legal expenses. The total of ₹55,000 must be paid to Arjun within two months.
