A Hyderabad-based astrologer by the name of Bellamkonda Muralikrishna Sarma has reportedly been arrested by the police for allegedly hiding counterfeit currency worth Rs 17.72 Cr at his residence in Nagole. Interestingly, the arrest happened after the police received a complaint from Sarma himself.

A few days before his arrest, Sarma's house was burgled by six individuals, one of whom is his relative. The six men stole Rs 6 lakh and precious stones from Sarma's house. This made the astrologer approach the police with a complaint.

When one of the burglars was traced, the police learned that he and the other five had burnt the fake currency fearing that they might be caught. When they stole the money, they didn't know that it was counterfeit currency.

After the police learned that the currency was fake, they probed Sarma and searched his house. To their shock, they discovered that counterfeit currency running into crores was stashed in the house.

What is more, Sarma was previously investigated by the CBI based on a complaint by a bank when he allegedly tried to transfer Rs 90 Cr worth of fake currency to a third party. Sarma served a one-year jail term for it.

After serving the jail term, Sarma was back to selling gemstones to his clients. It's not known what exactly he was planning to do with the counterfeit currency.
