Endgame: A satisfying finish to a decade of fun

The end of a spectacle, is it too exhausting to say that? Not really, 20 movies later, Marvel has done something no other production company has done it before. The crowded cast means that no one character gets much time to fully examine their feelings, but directors Anthony and Joe Russo and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely make it clear that they’re all thinking about individual people who died in Infinity War, and how to navigate a future without them. This indeed is a million-dollar question which every single ardent Marvel fan wants to know and Endgame is a sort of tribute for all this.

We cried when we saw Spiderman and the rest disappear into thin air, but at the same time, the anticipation of how he returns in the sequel “ far from home” and the answers with the ENDGAME really upped the probability of relishing this theatrical experience. End game is an answer to all your queries, and the best part is that it does so in an altogether convincing manner too. The unapologetic humor has always been Marvel’s biggest foray, End game is a continuation of what Marvel has been able to do in the last few movies.

And Endgame’s filmmakers pack their story with settlements for the longest-term fans, reminding them how well they know these characters’ existing emotional battles and deep-seated insecurities, and drawing those ideas out at length. Tony Stark’s constant war between arrogance and his heavy sense of responsibility, Thor’s buried insecurities, Steve Rogers’ deep-down pain for everything he lost when he was jolted out of his pre-historic time — they all get some screen time, keeping in mind the new and universal crisis at hand. The three titular characters – Thor, Ironman, and Cap… they form the key in setting up a fitting finale. Everything that a fan wants is in here, action, warped humor, loosely bound sentiments with close-up shots of our superheroes, sometimes all they do is stare and heave a high sigh at the events unfolding. Right from the start where Hawkeye's (Jeremy Renner) idyllic family picnic turns into something sinister, Avengers: Endgame held us spellbound. A masterfully weaved production of emotions and action, showcasing that superheroes, too, are fragile, and flawed, the film begins on a bleak note but ends uplifting your spirits and making you wish you had superpowers (and a cool costume) too.

If Infinity wars were all about brawn action and “trying” to save the universe before the catastrophic hits them, Endgame is more about avenging what was lost, the vanished and peak of desperation. Humor is not in plenty as one would have wanted, but its understandable as the film has emotions running high with the heroes running on high losses. As one would have guessed, the possibility of time travel is there but how and when is not to spoil yourself before heading into such a movie. Endgame is a culmination of sorts, a tribute to the individual characters and has several surprises all the way to the end. There is an epic war scene, glorious and satisfying – the biggest complaint would probably the long wait for action considering the movie itself falls in the action genre. Much of the time is spent on planning and grieving, which is understandable, but the only problem is that Marvel fan has never been subjected to too much emotional content, that too for 3 hours. Nevertheless, Marvel backups every character 100%.

Verdict: Walk in with expectations and you will find it satisfying, without expectations you are bound to enjoy it even better. Endgame will make you laugh, jump up and clap, leave you teary-eyed; watch it over and over again for a Marvel hangover.
