Ayushmann Khurrana assures that Anek doesnt deal with saviour complex

After delivering the phenomenal socio-political thriller 'Article 15', actor director duo Ayushmann Khurrana and Anubhav Sinha are now all set to take their collaboration even further with their soon to be released film 'Anek'. Just like 'Article 15', 'Anek' is also set against the backdrop of a grave socio-political issue that our country is facing since a long time.

Since the film revolves around separatist insurgency in North East and it stars a North Indian as the protagonist, there are concerns that 'Anek' might be harbouring a saviour complex just like 'Article 15'. However, in a recent conversation with The Indian Express, Khurrana assured that 'Anek' is the story of people of North East and it will be told from their perspective while giving them proper representation.

The actor stated, "I don’t think we have diverted ourselves to that saviour complex which people get criticised for. This is a film about the Northeast, and the protagonists are the actors of the Northeast. Till now, we have only seen character actors from the Northeast, but Andrea (Kevichüsa) is the lead actor, and she probably has an equal amount of screen time as mine. 70 per cent of the cast of the film is from the region. It’s their story, narrated by them."

Sharing how his film also promotes inclusivity, Ayushmann said, "Hindi film industry is often criticised about representation, we have got the representation right for the first time, and I am really proud of it. It’s high time we talk about inclusivity and include this part of the country which is so beautiful and progressive.”
