Karthikeyan from Tamil Nadu's Tirupur has done the unthinkable.  His wife Krithika was pregnant and they had been watching birthing videos on platforms like Facebook and YouTube. Why?  The intention was to perform the wife's natural delivery at home itself.

Recently, Krithika had labour pains.  This is when Karthikeyan, armed with the impractical knowledge gained by watching online birthing videos, decided to perform the delivery with the help of a friend and his wife.  Krithika delivered a baby but she started bleeding heavily.

A tensed Karthikeyan rushed her to a nearby hospital, only to be told that his wife is dead!  The poor 28-year-old woman was a victim of unhygienic and improper delivery.

A police complaint has been lodged against the husband.

At a time when the governments are promoting institutional deliveries, which are the safest and best for both mothers and newborns, the incident comes as a rude shock.
