Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero forced to retire from football due to heart problem?

Days after reports claimed that Barcelona and Argentina striker Sergio Aguero would announce his retirement from football over health issues at the age of 33, the La Liga club’s manager and head coach Xavi Hernandez has denied the rumours.

Aguero was admitted to a hospital for a ‘cardiac exam’ after suffering chest pain and dizziness during his side’s 1-1 draw against Alaves. Aguero was replaced during the break when he fell sick moments before halftime and has been ruled out for three months following cardiac evaluation. Responding to the retirement claims, Xavi said, “About Kun Aguero I don’t know anything. I spoke to him the other day and what came out is not certain. We are in touch with him and we will follow the evolution of what he had and hopefully he can keep playing football. This is the information I have. I don’t know where it came from (the news about Aguero’s retirement). He is calm. I told him to come when he is well. It is a medical issue. We have to wait and find out.”

Barcelona had earlier informed in a statement, “Following a cardiac exam, Barca striker Aguero has undergone a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure with Dr. Josep Brugada today. Over the next three months the effectiveness of the treatment will be evaluated to determine when he can come back, the La Liga club informed in a statement.”
