Ever since Virat Kohli decided to step down as the captain of India in the T20 format of cricket, viewers have been speculating over who would take up the role at the end of the T20 World Cup. Although it is no secret that India's vice captain Rohit Sharma would be leading the team henceforth, a BCCI official has confirmed the same.

He also claimed that an official announcement of the matter would be made at the end of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup. "Rohit Sharma has been in the leadership group and will take over from Virat after T20 World Cup. An official announcement will be made after the World Cup," the BCCI source was quoted as saying by InsideSport. Virat Kohli had earlier explained the reason behind his decision to quit captaincy in the shortest format. He said, "There were two things. The main factor was workload, and then I did not want to be dishonest towards my responsibilities. If I am unable to give 120 percent towards my responsibilities, then I would rather leave it. I have never been the kind of person who will just hold on to things for the sake of it."

Kohli added, "I am the kind of person who is not attached to anything. As a batsman, you have to make sure you are contributing in the best way possible for your team. I didn't want to compromise on the enjoyment of the game also." India will be playing their first match of the T20 WC against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on October 24, while they will be facing off against New Zealand at the same venue on October 31. The team has already played two of its warm up matches against England and Australia.
