BCCI president Sourav Ganguly tests positive for Covid-19; Admitted to hospital

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has been admitted to a hospital in Kolkata after he tested positive for Covid-19, as per a statement by the board on Tuesday.

Ganguly, who is double vaccinated and has been travelling extensively, was apparently rushed to the hospital Monday night as a precautionary measure after his RT-PCR test returned positive. “He was taken to Woodlands Nursing Home last night. He has been given medication and is currently stable,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by a news agency. Ganguly’s brother, Snehasish Ganguly, had tested positive for coronavirus earlier this year.

Ganguly was admitted to a hospital twice this year due to a heart related issue and he had to undergo emergency angioplasty. The former Indian captain’s blood samples will be sent genome sequencing to ascertain whether he has contracted the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
