Bengaluru floods: Cheap politics and fighting at play

Bengaluru is witnessing floods in the wake of incessant rains in parts of the capital city. The Karnataka capital's infrastructure has come under severe stress, especially in localities like Mahadevapura where many structures reportedly were built in recent years on stormwaters. Rampant encroachments over the years have resulted in ugly flooding this year.

At a time like this, a view is that BJP's political rivals are using the opportunity to spread negative sentiments about the city. On social media, members and supporters of Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK have been accused of trying to scaremonger IT companies by talking about how Bengaluru is going to be adversely affected every monsoon this way. Last week, IT companies in Bengaluru made a loss of more than Rs 220 Cr when their employees were stuck in traffic for five hours on the Outer Ring Road.

With DMK's functionaries allegedly going berserk to spread negativity against Bengaluru, BJP leaders are hitting back. SG Suryah of the BJP today tweeted that Kannadigas didn't take cheap potshots at Chennai when the city witnessed the worst-ever flooding in 2015. DMK’s Dravidian Draculas ranting non-stop at Bengaluru while it’s going through a calamity displays the insensitive and separatist nature of these thugs transmitting directly from their high command. Shameful, he wrote.

As per Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, only two zones in Bengaluru are facing floods. The rest of the city is not facing any crisis.
