The Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984 was a man made catastrophe of unparalleled imagination. As its 30th anniversary draws closer, the makers of the upcoming film Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain' have released a small infographic highlighting some facts about the ill-fated tragedy.

Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain' is an account of the tragedy translated on to celluloid. The makers have made sure that that the facts are presented in the corrected perspective and the film is expected to be an eye opener.

In the early morning hours of December 3, 1984, forty metric tons of toxic gas (Methyl Isocyanate, MIC) was accidentally released from Union Carbide's Bhopal plant. The leaked gas then went on to spread throughout the city, with residents waking up to suffocating poisonous gas that caused breathlessness and blindness. More than 10,000 people died in the first 3 daysof the incident and 150,000 victims still remain chronically sick from the effects of the gas today.

Legal proceedings involving Union Carbide (UCC), the United States and Indian governments, local Bhopal authorities, and the disaster victims started immediately after the catastrophe. However, out of an estimated damage that goes up to forty two billion dollars, the UCC paid only $370million. It was clearly evident that the incumbent central government in 1984 was shielding the culprits, including Warren Anderson the prime accused in the case who recently passed away still without any charges.

Bhopal: A Prayer For Rain' is produced by Seemanto Roy & Ravi Walia starring Martin Sheen, Mischa Barton, Kal Penn, Raajpal Yadav and Tannishtha Chatterjee in prominent roles. The film has been written by Ravi Kumar and David Brooks and is scheduled to release in India on December 5, 2014.
