BIG update on Mammootty's CBI franchise!

After more than 15 years of the release of Nerariyan CBI, the makers are set to launch the next film in the franchise of the CBI investigative thrillers starring Mammootty in the lead. According to a report on TOI, the new project will be launched on August 17 in Ernakulam, if the pandemic comes in control.
The franchise’s regular actors Mammootty and Mukesh will play the lead roles in the upcoming movie too along with Renji Panicker, Soubin Shahir, Asha Sharath, Sai Kumar, and many others. It is said that the movie will have new-age elements in it, however, Mammootty's character styling, mannerism, etc will remain the same. The movie will be directed by veteran K Madhu and scripted by S N Swamy, the duo behind the first four parts. The rest of the technicians will be finalized in a week.
The first CBI film, Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, was released in 1988 and became an instant success. It was immediately followed by a sequel, Jagratha, in 1989. The third – Sethuramaya Iyer CBI -- in 2004 and the fourth part Nerariyan CBI in 2005. The series had in fact set a new standard for investigative thrillers in Malayalam cinema.
