Counting of votes polled in last month's Assembly polls held in the north-eastern States of Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland was taken up this morning.

The BJP, which had been making a hectic attempt for the past many years to make inroads in these States, managed to take the lead in from Tripura thus upsetting the more than 2-decade long rule of the Communists.  Despite predictions to the contrary, Congress appears to be in line to retain power in Meghalaya.

Nagaland People’s Front is leading in Nagaland leaving the national parties behind.  A clear trend in all these States is likely to emerge in the afternoon.
