BJP MP Tejasvi Surya is in the thick of controversy. The BJP Yuva Morcha chief has been accused of unlocking the emergency exit of an IndiGo jet recently. The Congress party is unhappy that the breach hasn't been reported to the DGCA only because Surya belongs to the ruling party and is a powerful parliamentarian.

The issue allegedly took place sometime in December. In defence of Surya, it has been said that the unlocking happened unintentionally while he rested his hand and that he intimated the issue to the air hostess immediately.

A NewsMinute report said that the opening of the emergency exit of IndiGo delayed the flight journey by 2 hours. "Eyewitnesses alleged that the crew were briefing passengers on safety protocol when Tejasvi Surya, who was sitting near an emergency exit, opened it," the report said, sparking a political controversy.

Tweeting about the issue, commentator Sumanth Raman wrote, "Why would Surya open the emergency exit on an aircraft as is being widely reported? He is a frequent flyer and would know the emergency exit for what it is. 'He opened it for fun' as is being said does not wash. He is not a child. The whole truth is not known yet is my guess."
