It is reported that the BJP-NDPP alliance, which has won 29 out of the 59 Assembly constituencies where polls were held recently, is likely to stake claim to form the next Govt. in the State.

The ruling NPF has secured 27 seats while the NPP has got 2 seats.  JD(U) and an independent have won from the remaining two seats.  Any party or alliance of parties claiming to form the Govt. ought to enjoy the support of a minimum of 31 MLAs which is termed as ‘simple majority.

Polls were held in Nagaland (along with Meghalaya) last Tuesday and counting of votes in these two states along with Tripura (which voted on 18th February) was taken up yesterday.  Though the NPF led in the beginning, it was the NDPP-BJP alliance which later surged ahead.  Congress drew a humiliating blank in the State.

As the combination of the BJP and the NDPP is the largest entity in the newly elected Assembly, it is likely that this alliance is invited by the Governor to form the next Government.
