Actor Suriya, who recently condemned the proposed amendment to the Cinematograph Act, has come in for censure from the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP. At a meeting held by the State Youth Working Committee, the saffron party said that the 'Aakasam Nee Haddhu Raa' actor has opposed the NEET and the proposed legal amendment for self-promotion.

"If the actor continues with his criticism of the NEET selection process that the legislation pertaining to censorship of movies, we will initiate legal proceedings against him," the BJP said. Suriya has been one of the most vocal critics of the NEET selection process, which he says puts Tamil Nadu's poor aspirants at a great disadvantage.

Suriya recently invited his social media followers to register their objections to the proposed Cinematograph Act. He also used the hashtag 'Freedom of Expression' in his tweet. His brother and actor Karthi, too, opposed it.

Suriya was last month in the news for meeting with TN Chief Minister MK Stalin and donating Rs 1 Cr to the CM Relief Fund.
