West Bengal chief-minister Mamata Banerjee, referred to as ‘Didi’ by her party colleagues and people, has launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP at the Centre saying that it would even change the country’s name without others being aware of it.

BJP MLA Sangeet Som of Uttar Pradesh had described the famous tourist place of Taj Mahal, recently excluded by the Govt. from the State’s Tourism Brochure, as a ‘blemish’ in the history of India. Reaching to this, Mamata said that the comments can’t be ignored as that of a solitary MLA. “This has the BJP’s political agenda for long which has come out in the open only now,” she said.

“How a monument can be separated from the history of the country based on religion? The BJP has been travelling in a dangerous territory. It is attempting to rule the country by force in an autocratic manner. In India, where people of various religions, beliefs and casts are living in harmony for the past many years, such comments by a legislator are totally unwarranted.

“Those expressing such opinion should be kept away.  Who knows, the BJP might even change the country’s name without us being aware of it. Instead of doing fruitful things for the country’s progress and development, the BJP appears to be keen in fomenting communal issues,” Mamata concluded.
