So-so, but instrumentation, vocals are fine
Thursday, December 15, 2011 • Telugu Comments

Bodyguard is a mixed package of good and not-so-good numbers.  Thankfully, the first category outnumbers the second category.  Thaman enlists the able assistance of a range of entertaining singers - from Baba Sehgal, Rahul Nambiar, Karthik, Haricharan, Harini, Sri Vardhini, Geetha Madhuri and Ramya and comes out clean.  Well, he makes use of a pot-pourri of instruments in the songs like O My God, Yevvaro, Jiyajale, which are good.  Th crafty touch, however goes missing.

Lyricists Bhaskarabhatla, Ananth Sriram, Rama Jogayya Sastry, Sri Mani are all good.

Bodyguard    Listen here

Artists: Baba Sehgal, Ramya, Naveen Madhav
Lyricist: Bhaskarabhatla Ravikumar

The song comes with its typical Thaman-style beats.  The instrumentation touches the decibel levels and Baba Sehgal's vocals are a treat.  The title track, whose lyrics are by Bhaskarabhatla, is given a contemporary as well as sentimental touch.

Hosanna   Listen here

Artists: Rahul Nambiar, Sri Vardhini
Lyricist: Ananth Sriram

The song is breezy and hummable at once.  Ananth Sriram's lyrics are simple and evoke a sense of romance.  Rahul Nambiar's and Sri Vardhini's vocals make a good listen.  All said, the life of the song is in doubt because it sounds routinely familiar.

O My God   Listen here

Artists: Geetha Madhuri, Bindu
Lyricist: Ananth Sriram

This song is tunefully invigorating and Geetha Madhuri and Bindu lend their touch to make it sound unique.  The stylised 'O My Godo.. Bodyguardu' is entertaining.  The track sounds all the more interesting when the male voice takes up somewhere in the middle.  A potential hit.

Yevvaro   Listen here

Artist: Karthik
Lyricist: Sri Mani

Set against pulsating beats, the excellent vocals (by Karthik) and melodic feel make Yevvaro the biggest one to watch out for.  The lyrics make the song easily popular.  Sri Mani's simple lines are matched with brilliant instrumentation.  The Tamil influence is apparent.  Much greater than O My God.

Jiyajaley   Listen here

Artists: Haricharan, Harini
Lyricst: Rama Jhogayya Sastry

A tragic song has never been so peppy.  Mixed with the right tunes, it is evocative and equally poignant.  If the jiyajaley.. mirrors the longing, the lyrics are interesting to listen.  Above all, Haricharan's rendition leaves no room to desire more.

Endhuko   Listen here

Artist: Swetha Pundit, Thaman, Haricharan
Lyricst: Rama Jhogayya Sastry

The song strikes a familiar chord.  Swetha Pundit's slender voice is good.  Thaman and Haricharan are at their usual good.  The short ditty is situational and interesting.
