The Comptroller and Auditor General's report on the Rafale defence deal was on Wednesday tabled before Rajya Sabha. The national auditor has said that, compared to the 126 aircraft deal of the UPA era (the deal was never finalized), India managed to save 17.08% money for the India Specific Enhancements in the 36 Rafale contract struck in 2016.

The report further says that the deal was 2.86% lower than the one negotiated by the previous UPA government in 2007. Welcoming the report, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, "Satyameva Jayate – the truth shall prevail. The CAG Report on Rafale reaffirms the dictum."

However, not all are ready to welcome the CAG report. Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha said, "Nobody knows the price of Rafale fighter planes yet we are told to believe that the NDA price is cheaper than the UPA's. Govt claimed it was 9% cheaper. CAG says it is 2.86% cheaper. Just shows how subjective the answer can be depending on who is giving it."

BSP supremo and former UP CM Mayawati almost trashed the report. "The much awaited CAG report on Rafale tabled in Rajya Sabha is neither complete nor fully correct in the eyes of public. Why constitutional bodies are under stress not been able to work with full honesty in the BJP government. Country is worried."
